The Fendi Baguette (with the help of Carrie Bradshaw) singlehandedly launched the “it” bag phenom 10 years ago so it is fitting that we pay tribute to “it” on its 10th anniversary. I still love my Fendi baguettes and take them out once in a while to admire or use; beaded, whip stitched or embellished, I have several that I will never give up! The shape is just so perfect, fits right under the arm and holds anything and everything you need for a proper night out or a lunch with the girls. It is one of the all time greatest bags! From Fendi’s Spring Runways, several modern incarnations of the baguette appeared in squishy oversized clutch versions which are no less fabulous than the original. With the Sex and the City movie currently being filmed, don’t be surprised to see Carrie reunited with her beloved baguettes as well.Karl is a master at making women feel sexy with clothes that are beautifully draped to hide flaws and enhance curves, I have always been devoted to Fendi Ready To Wear if not its bags of late. I bought half a dozen pieces from the current Fall season and can’t wait to bring the fluid jersey dresses and whimsical patterns from Spring ’08 home.

Jimmy Choo Oversized Eel Clutch
One can not leave New York without dining at the latest “it” restaurant of the season. Currently, “it” happens to be the celeb packed “Waverly Inn” by Graydon Carter, a cozy little place in the West Village. I had dinner there the other night with my husband and a group of friends, one of which is a very chic girlfriend who walked in with a gorgeous oversized clutch in eelskin. To be honest, I have never been a fan of eel skin but this one was a stunner (seriously retro chic!); accented with gold band closure and water snake flap, it almost looked like a vintage piece from the ’70s! There was no discernible logo so I kept peeking at it discreetly to decipher the designer and as the evening went on I became completely obsessed with finding out more about the bag. Towards the end of the night, my friend went into the restroom and came out with what seemed like a totally different bag with a gold chain – wait didn’t she walk in with a clutch? That was when I could not contain myself any longer. I grabbed it and shouted “who makes this bag and is this a removeable shoulder strap?” Everyone laughed at the table because it was a classic Bag Snob moment, forget the wonderful food, wine and company. I only cared about the bag!Turns out the clutch/bag is the Jimmy Choo Carolina oversized clutch with removeable gold chain strap. The interior is lined in tan and lilac, the signature colors of the house of Choo. Totally yummy and soon to be totally mine. The reason I couldn’t find the logo is because it is subtly placed on the side of the hardware and not emblazoned across the bag. I can’t tell you how disco cool this clutch/bag is, rock it with a pair of gold python Choos and you’ll be guaranteed the center of attention! Available for $1,675 here.Remember the sold out Jimmy Choo Marin clutch we gave away? It’s now a celeb classic so you better jump on this one fast before Nicole or Paris snatch it up and steal your thunder!
YSL Uptown Crocodile
I promise this is the last YSL uptown I will feature…(this month)! But seriously, this was way too delicious to pass up… the uptown in genuine patent crocodile leather in sky gray. Just look at it, it’s screaming “Chic”! After seeing matte crocodile for so many seasons, patent crocodile just feels so decadent! Are you drooling? Passing out yet? Wait til you read the price, it’s $26,995, as in should you max out your credit card or cash out your child’s college fund? Or maybe you are one of the lucky girls who do not have to think twice about spending five figures on a bag and can hand over your titanium card without a beat or a care in the world (you’d be surprised at how many friends I have who buy these kinds of bags regularly- I won’t name names because their husbands may be reading this). But hey, don’t shoot the messenger, I am just sharing my discovery with you At Bergdorf Goodman for pre-order, it will arrive by November 29th, just in time to thank Santa for being so good to you.

Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2008
Diane von Furstenberg is one of our favorite designers, season after season, she never ceases to amaze and delight. I arrived in New York on Sunday and headed straight to the tents for the DVF Fall 2008 show and the collection did not disappoint. For Fall ’08, she said she was inspired by “a muse who always knew she would find her way through the rain drops… the mystery, the unknown, the infinite possibilities of a foreign affair.” One who would stride through the dark streets of Berlin with a secret in her heart and diamonds sewn into the hem of her dress with a wardrobe of slender and feminine silhouettes. Classic tones of camel and charcoal were the focus, punched up with flashes of fuchsia and chartreuse silk jacquard. Houndstooth and tweed fitted jackets juxtaposed against sumptuous silk velvets and ornate embroidery gave the collection depth and character. High glossy heels and asymmetrical mini felt hats(by Jennifer Behr) finish the sultry look reminiscent of a modern day Marlene Dietrich. The DvF muse also flees to Shanghai, in mandarin collared silk dresses of florals and vibrant color- the grouping was sensuous and beautiful- my 95 year old Grandmother from Shanghai would approve. This is by far one of the best collections Diane von Furstenberg has shown, one that I will be clamoring for come Fall.

Louis Vuitton Epi Malesherbes
Trawling eBay and vintage, pre-loved bag sites has been a hobby I’ve always enjoyed, checking out bags that were made a good 20, 30 years ago. And while there’s nothing wrong with buying current season runway darlings, there’s also nothing wrong in buying vintage as far as I’m concerned. Besides doing your part to recycle, which is always good for environment, they are often times not as expensive and you’ll most definitely not see the same bag on another lady’s lap while on the train.Bags I’m always on a lookout for include those made of Epi leather from the 80s, which Louis Vuitton made virtually indestructible. Many of the designs are also discontinued, including the?Louis Vuitton Epi Malesherbes which was also unofficially known as the brand’s version of the Kelly. Made in a wide variety of Epi hues, it did originally come with a long handle till it was shortened towards the end of its production.Measuring 26 cm by 22 cm, it is a rather ample handbag as far as weekend jaunts and sit-down dinners are concerned, with an additional zip pocket on the inside. Classy and chic, the bag is almost entirely covered with Epi leather, with the most minimal of gold-tone hardware in the form of the clasp and handle joints. You’ll still find this underrated beauty online, where they go for around USD350 each in pristine condition. Which really isn’t so bad for a bag that’s still relevant in this day and age when everybody seems to be doing clean, understated and chic. And if anyone out there is keen on getting one but isn’t too sure about its authenticity, do drop me an email and I’ll be happy to help.YOU SHOULD SEE: Louis Vuitton Epi Saint Cloud
Bagaholicboy Likes #29 – Another Valentine’s Day Gift Guide
February 11, 2012 Here’s another quick Valentine’s Day gift guide sans hearts, since some of you wrote in requesting for bags, SLGs and accessories that came without heart-shaped motifs plastered all over. And given the results of last night’s quick question on Facebook, there were requests for shoes for both genders, jewellery (with diamonds specifically), SLGs (wallets, tech cases) and timepieces. With the exception of wigs which I must confess I have no clue about, here’s pretty much everything you guys requested for your shopping pleasure. And it ain’t random either; the collage above showcases what I personally own or am lusting after, along with some luscious lovelies for the ladies. No Valentine this year?
